The Japanese Film Festival Kicks Off On Monday 21 April!

We’re delighted to welcome back the Japanese Film Festival for a trio of fantastic films, screening from Monday 21 to Wednesday 23 April.

On Monday 21 April, we screen Cloud, the caustic and captivating satirical thriller from prolific and acclaimed director Kiyoshi Kurosawa. A shatteringly tense story of a man who resells illegal goods and finds himself ensnared in a mysterious and life-threatening conspiracy, Cloud is a pulse-thumping action spectacle and a blackly comic look at technology, capitalism and the modern void.

On Tuesday 22 April, we screen Teki Cometh, a haunting drama from Daihachi Yoshida. In this grippingly tense tale of retired academic Gisuke, we see him haunted by cryptic threats of an enemy coming to Japan, while also battling increasingly disturbing and unnerving dreams. This outstanding new film is a cleverly ironic and subtly humorous drama with a dark edge.

On Wednesday 23 April, we screen Ghost Cat Anzu, a vivid and unique animated film from Yoko Kuno and Nobuhiro Yamashita. Ghost Cat Anzu follows young Karin on her adventures with her new companion Anzu– a giant walking and talking cat who lives his life like a human. Join Karin and Anzu on their strange and wonderful adventure through Tokyo as Karin processes the passing of her mother and comes face to face with magical creatures, gods, and demons.
