Cork audiences are spoilt for choice during Triskel’s summer season. We have scheduled a variety of shows from Billy Lingwood in Triskel Sample Project Space, to Susan Seidelman and Tim Burton seasons in the cinema and both classical and jazz music concerts for everyone to enjoy. Tickets are on sale now.
Billy Lingwood is the latest Artist in Residence in Triskel Sample Project Space. A Cork-based visual artist and arts worker, their residency brings together professional artists from various disciplines and non-professional collaborators from the queer community to investigate alternative models of community-based art making at the loaded timeframe of Cork LGBT+ Pride. The project will conclude with an exhibition shaped both by the work itself and the specific site, supported by resources for public participation.
Chris O’Neill, Triskel’s Head of Cinema, regularly schedules cinema seasons as part of his ambitious programming so including Susan Seidelman and Tim Burton films (Saturdays in August) in the line-up makes complete sense.
Starting with the impressive independently made SMITHEREENS, Seidelman went onto direct the wonderfully witty DESPERATELY SEEKING SUSAN with Rosanna Arquette and Madonna, the good-natured sci-fi comedy MAKING MR. RIGHT with John Malkovich, and the wickedly humorous revenge tale SHE-DEVIL, which gave Meryl Streep her first comedic role. Those show from 19-22 July.
Tim Burton is a filmmaker with a unique cinematic vision in that his films often blend elements of gothic fantasy with whimsy and surrealism. Triskel will screen his first five feature films over five consecutive Saturday evenings in August: there is madcap comedy with PEE-WEE’S BIG ADVENTURE, the macabre black comedy with the original BEETLEJUICE, the comic book hero adaptations BATMAN and BATMAN RETURNS, and the bittersweet fairytale that is EDWARD SCISSORHANDS.
In music, the Meliora Quartet and Aurelian Ensemble perform as part of the National String Quartet Foundation’s Young Artists Summer Concerts while the Triskel Lunchtime Jazz Series continues on Saturday 22 August with Curveball, a six-piece jazz fusion group formed in Cork in 2026.
Laura Hyland starts her NAVIGATOR residency on 23 July with three performances planned between then and 15 August. This music residency is in partnership with Improvised Music Company and offers jazz and improvising musicians professionally remunerated time and space to develop their practice, while building creative and professional relationships in new locations through local engagement and performance opportunities.
