All are welcome to attend this Opening Reception and Listening Event, which presents I Want To Talk About Ireland, the newest body of work by Sarah Long who is Artist in Residence in Triskel Sample Project Space from 3 September – 25 October 2026.

Sarah critiques suppressed female archetypes, the politics of representation, nationhood and myth through the lens of feminism. “I Want To Talk About Ireland” engages in visual fictioning across painting, performance, sound and writing as material. With this new body of work, Sarah uses her autofictional persona Mary, a modern day iteration of the Mother Ireland figure, alongside the aesthetics and fluidity of girlhood, as a mode of criticality. This presentation is followed by a listening event of Sarah’s spoken word album. Sarah will be in conversation with the musician Laurie Shaw, who produced the record, during this event.

I Want To Talk About Ireland is Sarah Long’s debut spoken word album. Floating in a musical landscape of cinematic sound design, strings and electronic beats, Sarah’s existential, inner monologue engages with ideas of nationhood, womanhood and voice through expressions of girlhood.

This album is the result of several years of experimental writing across Glasgow and Cork City. Invoking the language of dreams, Sarah’s ruminations flit between personal stories and motifs and broader reverberations in Irish culture. The tricolour flies outside the home, the boy from the disco wants to be Pope, Glas Gaibhleann the magical cow of endless bounty has something to say about space travel; I Want To Talk About Ireland is a blend of myth and mania.
