Triskel and Sample-Studios have joined forces to bring creativity and play to the fore this summer. Chris Finnegan is the current Artist in Residence in Triskel Sample Project Space and he will offer workshops as part of his own residency as well as for Cruinniú na nÓg, the national day of free creativity for children and young people under 18. Stevie G, Sarah Buckley and Aoife Claffey join him with their own workshops on Saturday June 6th. Tickets are free but booking is essential.
Chris’ practice sees him continuously developing methodologies for collaboration at the intersection of play and art making. Play This Way looks at early years play and takes inspiration from modernist child-centred pedagogies such as the Montessori and Reggio Emilia approaches, as well as Simon Nicholson’s loose parts play theory. Two workshops on Sunday May 24th (one at 12:00 for 1-3 year olds and one at 13:15 for 4-6 year olds) are opportunities for young ones to get a behind-the-scenes look at this work in progress, exploring and testing the environment before it goes live to the general public at the start of June.
The Creative Workshops for Cruinniú na nÓg encourage children and their families with hands-on learning and creative exploration. Children will learn the basics of photography and get involved in designing a collective Playspace using photographs with Chris Finnegan; find out more about beats, loops, and sound design with Stevie G; explore fabrics, textures, and simple hand-stitching techniques with Sarah Buckley; and produce their own portrait print with Aoife Clancy.
These interactive and practical workshops are suitable for 8-12 year olds and all materials are provided. Each session will be led by a professional artist and is designed to inspire young people to develop new skills, express themselves creatively, and explore the possibilities of a career in the arts.
