Sarah Long is Artist in Residence in Triskel Sample Project Space from 3 September – 25 October 2026. She critiques suppressed female archetypes, the politics of representation, nationhood and myth through the lens of feminism. She engages in visual fictioning across painting, performance, sound and writing as material. With this new body of work, Sarah uses her autofictional persona Mary, a modern day iteration of the Mother Ireland figure, alongside the aesthetics and fluidity of girlhood, as a mode of criticality.

On Culture Night 2026, Sarah will launch her album and publication with a performance, combining sound, voice and material gestures, all taking place. All are welcome.

I Want To Talk About Ireland (Beat Time Records) is Sarah Long’s debut spoken word album. Floating in a musical landscape of cinematic sound design, strings and electronic beats, Sarah’s existential, inner monologue engages with ideas of nationhood, womanhood and voice through expressions of girlhood. This record is produced by Laurie Shaw.

I’m never going to be able to sleep out here (published by Bloomers) invites you into the confidence, and bedroom, of the auto fictional character Mary. She implores you to listen and decipher her strange visions.

Mary is a body, a woman trapped, Mother Ireland, you, me, us, Sarah, a mortal bean, a big sack of potatoes, a shape shifter, a girl, a curled up fiddlehead, a voice to be ignored, a voice to be listened to, a public persona, a private thought, a never ending monologue.

Mary is an allegory of a painting.
