LGBTI+ Awareness Week

88 mins – New Zealand 2020
Director: Max Currie
Starring: Elz Carrad, Arlo Green and Awhina-Rose Ashby

Cork marks 17th May, the International Day Against Homophobia, Lesbophobia, Transphobia and Biophobia (IDAHOBIT) each year with LGBTI+ Awareness Week, reaffirming a commitment to equality, inclusion, and solidarity.

This year Cork LGBTI+ Inter Agency and Triskel Arts Centre present a special screening of the acclaimed drama RŪRANGI. It follows Caz (Elz Carrad) who returns for the first time to the home he fled a decade earlier – the remote and racially diverse small Kiwi town of Rūrangi. Estranged from the community he abandoned before his transition, Caz attempts to reconnect with family and friends, including his ex-boyfriend Jem (Arlo Green), who is still wounded by Caz’s sudden disappearance. But the intervening years have brought profound changes with the townspeople facing a divisive environmental threat.

There will be a wine reception before the film sponsored by Coolgrey. This reception will begin at 17:15 and the screening will start at 18:00. This event is free to attend but ticketed (tickets will be available from Tuesday 13 May at 10:00).
