Classical Music this Autumn

Classical music has been proven to improve memory, reduce stress and boost overall mental wellbeing. Even more reasons to attend Triskel’s series of lunchtime classical music concerts! Our autumn series of concerts includes four string quartets from the National String Quartet Foundation and four concerts in the Spotlight Chamber Music Series, which is curated by Aoife Burke. The series begin on Saturday 7 September with the Picorlino Trio performing the first of the Spotlight concerts. The ConTempo Quartet kicks off the Autumn String Quartet Series on Saturday 14 September. Tickets from €10.50 are on sale now.

Chris Marwood, Artistic Director of the National String Quartet Foundation, said, “The Autumn series offers a platform to both emerging and established Irish musicians and composers and draws a strong and loyal following from audiences of all ages.”

Other quartets in the series are the Esposito, Banbha and Ficino who will perform pieces by Amanda Feery, Beethoven, Seán Doherty and more in the surroundings of Triskel Christchurch.

The Spotlight Chamber Music Series is based on the principle of bringing together some of Ireland’s most dynamic and distinguished musicians to play with one another in small ensembles. Speaking of the first concert in the series, Aoife Burke, cellist and Cork native, said, “This promises to be an eclectic programme of works for violin, horn and piano.”

The remaining concerts in the Spotlight series feature wind and string instrumentalists and a pianist, performing Finola Merivale, Brahms and more. In the final concert mezzo-soprano Niamh O’Sullivan with pianist Gary Beecher will play tribute to great soprano and singing teacher Veronica Dunne (1927 – 2021) with a recital of songs and arias by Bizet, Massenet as well as songs by Irish composers.

Tickets for all concerts are available to purchase online or by phoning 021-4272022.
