Halloween at Triskel

Every Halloween, Triskel Arts Centre screens horror movies because it’s the perfect time of year to have some fun and frights at the cinema. The unique former church space is an incredibly atmospheric place to watch these kinds of films and it adds something to the experience as well as seeing them on the big screen with an audience.

This year’s Halloween movie line-up is spread over two evenings. On Wednesday October 30th, there are two films screening: John Carpenter’s Halloween and Oddity, the latest film from Cork filmmaker Damian McCarthy. Chris O’Neill, Head of Cinema at Triskel, said, “The original Halloween from 1978, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasence, is THE movie synonymous with this particular festive season and it’s always fun to screen it. Oddity has been getting rave reviews from critics and is being hailed as one of the best horror films of the year, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to show it at Triskel.”

For Thursday October 31st, O’Neill has selected three films from Irish filmmaker Neil Jordan. He explained why. “Jordan has made films in all sorts of genres (thrillers, comedies, dramas) but the three gothic horrors we’re screening are exceptional. The Company of Wolves, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, is a wonderfully dreamy adult fairytale, mixing Little Red Riding Hood with werewolves. Interview With The Vampire, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, is based on the Anne Rice novel and is a classic vampire tale starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. Byzantium is also a vampire story but this time told from a female perspective and stars Saoirse Ronan and Gemma Arterton.”

The gothic horror tales of Neil Jordan are perfect movies to see in the Triskel Christchurch auditorium on this occasion, as are Oddity and Halloween. It’s a special time of year for fans of scary movies to celebrate and have fun. Tickets are on sale now.
