Hal Hartley’s Henry Fool Trilogy

This April at Triskel we bring you a trilogy of films by the acclaimed director, Hal Hartley. Hartley’s Henry Fool Trilogy was filmed over 17 years across New York, following a strange drifter by the name of Henry Fool and the affect he has on the lives of those around him. This quirky, humourous triple threat features famous faces such as Parker Posey, Jeff Goldblum, Aubrey Plaza, and many more.

Henry Fool: Mon 6 Apr | 8pm

A timid and awkward garbage collector, Simon Grim, lives a dull and uneventful life alongside his depressed mother and his rebellious, promiscuous sister, Fay (Parker Posey). Everything changes when they take in an eccentric new lodger, Henry Fool (Thomas Jay Ryan). Despite being arrogant, crude, and idle, Henry possesses a sharp command of language and encourages Simon to write an epic poem that unexpectedly launches the shy outsider into literary stardom.

Fay Grim: Tue 7 Apr | 8pm

Fay Grim worries that her son, Ned, might follow in the footsteps of his father, Henry Fool, who has become a wanted fugitive. Meanwhile, her brother Simon sits in prison for aiding Henry’s escape. When the CIA approaches Fay with a deal to track down Henry’s allegedly dangerous notebooks in return for Simon’s freedom, she’s pulled into a high-stakes mission. What begins as a search quickly spirals into an international web of deception, thrusting the unassuming but determined single mother into a perilous world of espionage.

Ned Rifle: Wed 8 Apr | 8pm

In the final installment of Hal Hartley’s trilogy about the troubled Grim family, Ned (Liam Aiken) sets out on a mission to kill his father, blaming him for ruining his mother’s life. His plan, however, is complicated when an engaging graduate student (Aubrey Plaza) steps in and disrupts his intentions.
