
Cork Traveller Pride 2025 is a week long festival celebrating Travellers as citizens of Cork, showcasing the many positive contributions that Irish Travellers bring to our city. It celebrates the richness of Traveller culture and ethnicity both for Travellers and the wider community, with this year’s theme being “Empowering the Future: The Next Generation of Irish Travellers”. This festival runs alongside Traveller Pride events organised throughout the country from Mon May 26 – Sat May 31. All events are free to attend and all are welcome.
Kicking off Traveller Pride Week on Mon May 26 at 12:00PM we have a flag raising event in City Hall, where members of the community will raise a Traveller Pride flag. Following this, at 6:30PM in Ballyphehane Community Centre there is the Keenan Family Tree Project launch, where all are welcome to join in celebrating the Keenan family tree over chat and song.
On Tue May 27 and Wed May 28 at 10:00AM – 2:00PM we have “Creating Connections, Traveller Lives” Virtual Reality Short Film. Booking is essential for this exciting event that focuses on celebrating Traveller culture and identity. Please note this is suitable for over 12’s only. On Thurs May 29 at 11:00AM there is the Rebel County Traveller Archive Launch. This is to launch the online archive celebrating Traveller culture featuring powerful photos, films, and stories.
Finally, on Saturday 31 May at 12:00PM – 3:00PM we close out the festivities with a family friendly day for the people of Cork to celebrate Traveller culture and traditions. Activities include traditional paper flower-making, Traveller singers, spoken word artists, hair braiding and so much more.
There are also permanent displays you can view at any time; “Toraig on the Tobar” Traveller Culture Exhibit, located in the Cork Public Museum, Fitzgerald Park, and Black Ash Traveller Heritage Sign, located in the Tramore Valley Park.
