Don’t be a Scrooge this December – head to Triskel for Festive Fun!

Every year, there’s a debate over whether Die Hard is, in fact, a Christmas movie or ‘just’ a movie set at Christmas. Finally laying the argument to rest, the writer of the popular film has confirmed it is a Christmas classic and has even provided a checklist comparing it to White Christmas. You can make up your mind this festive season as both films are showing at Triskel Arts Centre and tickets are on sale now.

Die Hard has been part of the traditional festive offering at Triskel for over a decade, together with It’s a Wonderful Life and The Muppet Christmas Carol. This year, the centre has added a few new films to the line-up alongside live music concerts from Fionnuala Moynihan and Eamonn Walsh, and art history lectures from Dr Matthew Whyte and Áine Andrews who both run popular art history lecture series throughout the year.

“Eamonn Walsh’s concert will kick off our Christmas season on Friday 28 November,” said Tony Sheehan, Artistic Director at Triskel, “and we’re looking forward to welcoming him to the Triskel stage along with special guest artists including Cork natives Georgina Cassidy (Pianist), Anna Marie Sheehan (Soprano) and James O’Sullivan, as well as a Cork-based string ensemble”.

Another Cork native Fionnuala Moynihan, who has played all over the world, performs on Friday 12 December. Sheehan continued, “We’re delighted she’ll perform pieces from Chopin as well as several of her own arrangements of Christmas Carols and songs.”

Audiences can also pick their favourite Scrooge with Dickens’ A Christmas Carol getting two different outings at Triskel Cinema: Alastair Sims from the 1951 British adaptation or Michael Caine in The Muppet Christmas Carol. Home Alone and the 1994 version of Miracle on 34th Street starring Richard Attenborough and Mara Wilson round out the festive films this year.

Chris O’Neill, Head of Cinema at Triskel, said, “Watching these classic films have become part of people’s Christmas traditions over the years. It is important to us to keep this tradition alive and allow people to lose themselves in the adventures of Kermit, Miss Piggy and friends, cheer on John McClane retaking the Nakatomi Building, and join Kevin McCallister and George Bailey in understanding the importance of family and community.”

Christmas at Triskel starts on Friday 28 November and runs until Monday 22 December. Tickets are on sale now from www.triskelartscentre.ie.
