Fear Screen 2025: we dare you to watch!

We are delighted (and chilled!) to partner once again with Cork International Film Festival (CIFF) on FEAR SCREEN, which returns this March to Triskel Cinema.

This popular and thrilling season of cinematic terror features a selection of gripping tales and chilling masterpieces, curated by CIFF and screening every Thursday at 8:15pm for the month of March at Triskel. From French slashers and Italian giallo, to German serial killers and possessed Polish nuns, each feature will have you on the edge of your seat and covering your eyes.

Cork audiences can catch Alexandre Bustillo & Julien Maury’s 2007 French slasher Inside; Polish 1961 Cannes winner Mother Joan of the Angels (Jerzy Kawalerowicz); the eerie Tenderness of the Wolves from Ulli Lommel (1973); and the directorial debut from Italian master of horror Dario Argento’s The Bird with the Crystal Plumage.

Each screening will be introduced by CIFF Programme Manager, Si Edwards.

Unrelenting in its horrific, gory violence (and still banned in Germany), with a terrifying performance from Beatrice Dalle, INSIDE will have you on the edge of your seat, and covering your eyes. This screening opens with the short film REAL (Rodrigue Hart, 4 min, France). 1857. Two peasant women find a smartphone in their field.

Jerzy Kawalerowicz | Poland | 1961 | 110 mins

Loosely based on the same case that was later to influence Ken Russell’s ‘The Devils’, MOTHER JOAN OF THE ANGELS is a true classic of Polish cinema, and won the Special Jury Prize at the 1961 Cannes Film Festival.

Thursday 20 March, 8.15pm: TENDERNESS OF THE WOLVES

Uli Lommel | Germany | 1973 | 82 mins

The story of Fritz Harmann, serial killer and cannibal, who plagued a small town in wartime West Germany. Directed by Ulli Lommel, who later made notorious video nasty ‘The Boogeyman’, and produced by Ranier Werner Fassbinder, the film features many of Fassbinder’s regular actors in its cast, including Kurt Raab, who also wrote the screenplay, relishing in his sinister portrayal of Harmann.

Thursday 27 March, 8.15pm: THE BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE

Dario Argento | Italy | 1970 | 96 mins

The directorial debut form the Italian master of horror, Dario Argento. An American writer becomes a key witness in an attempted murder believed to be carried out by a notorious serial killer, and soon becomes the target of the murderer’s intentions. A landmark moment in giallo cinema.
