CloseA Fantastic Woman15A
EULAC Cinema Night
104 mins – Chile / Germany / Spain / United States 2017 – Subtitles
Director: Sebastián Lelio
Starring: Daniela Vega, Francisco Reyes and Luis Gnecco
Triskel Arts Centre is delighted to be taking part in this year’s edition of European Cinema Night, a joint initiative organised by Europa Cinemas and Creative Europe MEDIA. This event aims at bringing Europe closer to its citizens, while celebrating together the richness and diversity of the European film culture, by offering free screenings of MEDIA supported films across the continent.
In 2025, the initiative expands globally with EULAC Cinema Nights – a special edition in collaboration with cinemas across Latin America and the Caribbean. Timed alongside the EU-CELAC Summit taking place on 9th and 10th November 2025 in Santa Marta, Colombia, this bi-regional celebration will showcase the power of audiovisual cooperation between the two regions.
The initiative is jointly organised by the Creative Europe MEDIA programme, the European External Action Service, and Europa Cinemas, in cooperation with the Conference of Ibero-American Audiovisual and Cinematographic Authorities (CAACI).
For this occasion, there will be a special free screening of Sebastián Lelio’s acclaimed feature A FANTASTIC WOMAN, which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2018.
When her lover passes away Marina (Daniela Vega), a trans woman, is treated with suspicion. Now, she must fight against the prejudices that have made her the person that she is – a complex, strong and fantastic woman.
We are delighted that The Irish Times film critic Tara Brady will be in attendance to introduce the film, and there will be a drinks reception before the screening which each ticket holder is invited to attend.
This special screening of A FANTASTIC WOMAN is free but ticketed. Tickets will be released at 10am on Thursday 4th December.
