ECM: Artists and Collaborations

Triskel Arts Centre’s longstanding partnership with renowned jazz label ECM has brought world-class musicians to Cork in recent years. This year, audiences can experience four concerts featuring ECM artists and collaborations.

Tony Sheehan, Artistic Director at Triskel, said, “Each year Triskel Arts Centre celebrates our partnership with ECM Records by presenting a series of concerts as part of the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival. We are very grateful to everyone at the festival for allowing us to do this, and this year we are especially pleased to present ‘ECM Artists and Collaborations’, a series of three concerts featuring these superlative artists in solo, duo and trio format. As an extra bonus, we have partnered with Music Network to bring ECM artist Marilyn Mazur to Ireland along with her group, Special 4, who will tour the country to large and small venues.”

ECM: Artists & Collaborations takes place on Sunday 27 October with guitarist Zsófia Boros and saxophonist Trygve Seim taking to the stage at 2.30pm, followed by pianist Nitai Hershkovits at 6.30pm and finishing with the Jakob Bro Trio featuring Joey Baron & Thomas Morgan at 8.30pm. Master percussionist and musical visionary Marilyn Mazur will perform on Saturday 26 October at 2:30pm.

Sheehan continued, “The sublime musical sensibilities of Boros and Seim and the unique interplay of classical and contemporary guitar and saxophone is a thing of true magic and beauty and will be unforgettable in the acoustic and visual surrounds of Triskel Christchurch, while Cork audiences will be familiar with Herschkovits from his performance with the Oded Tzúr Quartet, which was critically acclaimed as a highlight concert of last year’s festival. Jakob Bro on electric guitar, Thomas Morgan on bass and the legendary Joey Baron on drums and percussion will complete our ECM day in spectacular fashion.”

Rounding out the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival line-up at Triskel this year are harpist Alina Bzhezhinska, composer Brian Jackson and saxophonist Tony Kofi who will celebrate Alice Coltrane; Japanese trumpeter Takuya Kuroda; and singer Stella Bass.
