126 mins – Italy / Spain / France 1975 – Dir: Michelangelo Antonioni
Starring: Jack Nicholson, Maria Schneider and Jenny Runacre

When a journalist impulsively exchanges identities with a dead man, he believes he’s starting anew. But passing himself off as someone else doesn’t mean he’s escaping the past. With the action condensed into the course of a single day, The Passenger explores such themes as time, memory and identity. Director Michelangelo Antonioni claimed never to be satisfied with any of his films. This perfectionism can be seen in the fact that, in the scene where Jack Nicholson lies down in an orange grove, the oranges were famously painted as they weren’t ‘orange enough’.
