109 mins – United States 1971 – Dir: Dennis Hopper
Starring: Dennis Hopper, Stella Garcia and Don Gordon
This audacious experimental picture is a movie about a movie shoot. Dennis Hopper’s rebellious and frequently misunderstood masterpiece has been restored and re-released. Shot as an erratic stream-of-consciousness, this quirky neo-Western focuses on a self-destructive stunt co-ordinator shooting a film about the death of Billy the Kid in a remote Peruvian village. Hopper improvised much of The Last Movie, resulting in an organic and immersive performance that at once intrigues and bewilders.
