This Fri 9 November at 7.30pm, The Cork Branch of the Western Front Association in partnership with Triskel Arts Centre will present an evening of remembrance in music, song and story to remember the 4,000 servicemen with Cork connections who died fighting in the Armed Forces of the Allied Nations in the Great War of 1914-18. With: The Barrack Street Band, the Irish Great War Society and Vocalist Niamh O’Sullivan. A major exhibition of artefacts and other memorabilia from the Great War will also be on display.
All proceeds for this Evening of Remembrance go towards Cork Penny Dinners
Triskel are also pleased to announce our first publication detailing the history of our Christchurch venue “For Their Country: The Great War Dead Of Christchurch Parish, Cork”.
Local historians Gerry White and Jean Prendergast conducted research on the Great War casualties among the parishioners of Christchurch and have done a fantastic job in bringing the story of these men to life. Along with details on their lives before and during the Great War, they have also included information on where these men were buried and commemorated.
We hope this will be considered a valuable addition to knowledge of the period as well as doing justice to the memory of these men who lost their lives during WW1.
This will be available in Triskel from Friday November 9th
